A group of 10 or 12 odd people in front of a 19-inch television with the built-in speakers blaring at its maximum capacity. India was playing Sri Lanka in the 2011 Cricket World Cup final at Mumbai. As we polished off bottle after bottle of spirits, our volume got louder than ever before. Indiaaaa India dhak dhak dhak (sound being made by an empty cola bottle which was our make shift drum) emanated from the eighth floor apartment of a pretty up-market building in Manipal. The tenants couldn't care less about the noise as it was a special occasion and it was as though everyone had the licence to do what they pleased. At times tempers flared due to mistakes being made by the Indians. As the excitement grew, we were joined by several other friends and the liquor content increased two fold.
The rest is a blurred memory to be honest. Not mainly due to the alcohol overflow but more because of the sheer excitement after India's World Cup victory.
This post of mine was drafted a day or two after India's victory but I came across this only now so quite obviously I've lost the train of thought. Nevertheless I'm still going to put this up on the blog to remind me to do things on time!
